The RISE Programme, is a bespoke leadership and talent development initiative designed specifically for colleagues from Black, Asian, and ethnic minority backgrounds. Its name represents:

Excellence

Resilience

Intelligence

Strength

The RISE Programme is aimed at staff working in bands 2 through to 8b and focuses on supporting career progression, confidence building and leadership development. Participants in the programme receive coaching, mentoring and engagement with executive and non-executive leadership throughout and complete modules including leadership, emotional and cultural intelligence, change management and quality improvement project work.

The RISE Programme in MSE is hosted and delivered by EPUT and in 2023 received the Zenith Global Health Outstanding Team Award for its innovative efforts in supporting staff from minority backgrounds.

Launched in 2021, over 140 staff have graduated to date and many alumni have gone on to secure promotions, lead improvement projects and win recognition awards.

The NHS Leadership Academy is dedicated to developing outstanding leadership across health and care through world-class learning and tailored development opportunities. Its mission is to support individuals, teams, and organisations to achieve excellence in leadership to improve patient outcomes and the overall NHS experience.

The NHS Leadership Academy hosts a suite of development programmes for every career stage including:

  • Edward Jenner Programme – for new or emerging leaders, this free self guided study includes online modules of learning to gain an NHS Leadership Academy Award
  • Mary Seacole Programme – for first-time leaders, 100 hours of online study and three workshops over 6 months to gain a CMI Accredited qualification and NHS Leadership Academy Award. The programme costs £995 per person for those providing NHS-funded care. 
  • Rosalind Franklin Programme – for mid-level leaders managing large or complex services. 120 hours of online study and eight workshop days over 9 months to gain a CMI Accredited qualification and NHS Leadership Academy Award. The programme costs £1,200 per person for those providing NHS-funded care. 
  • Elizabeth Garrett Anderson Programme – a 24‑month course (including MSc in Healthcare Leadership) for aspiring senior leaders
  • Nye Bevan Programme – 12-month development for board-level and executive leaders
